the first surgery in my life was over! :)

here was what happened!

7+am: reached the national dental centre and registered.

8+am: entered the waiting area with my parents, measured my weight ( i was 45kg!), got changed in the blue kimono-style operation robe and wore the cap and their slippers. an intern doctor then talked to us regarding the surgery and its possible risks.

9am: watched tv with my mum at a kids room inside.. the room was cute! balloons and toys and stools shaped like our molars hahaha. an anaesthetist then came in and started my nightmare :x she poked the back of my hand with a long fat needle into my vein and a tube was dangling outside. needless to say it was quite painful but i was a big girl already so i felt i shouldn't act like a kid and start struggling :x i beared with the pain and continued watching tv, until i heard the anaesthetist said "SORRY SORRY". i looked at my hand and saw that blood was dripping off my hand :x it was quite alot of blood and me and my mum just freaked out! the worst thing was she forgot to bring in the plaster to secure the needle inside my hand so she asked me to support my hand in the air while she went to get the plaster. omggg. at that time my hand was already stained with blood and another lady who was also in the kids room kept staring at me hahaha. after the needle and tube were set i was allowed to rest till my surgery, which was perhaps an hour later. i was like "wth?! am i supposed to live with that stupid needle in me for the next hour?! arggghhh" all of a sudden, i was shivering from head to toe. i wonder if i shivered coz of the aircon or i was just trembling in fear :x but anyway the shivering became quite bad as if i was in spasm so i left the kids room to lie down on my bed and covered myself with the blanket.





10+am: rolled around in bed and whined about my hand for an hour, it was finally my turn to go for the surgery. my mum convinced me to go to the toilet first but i didn't dare to move my hand so i only had the other hand then :x the operating bed was really narrow.. so the nurse kept reminding me to lie down slowly or else i might fall off from the other side hahaha. the nurse began strapping my legs to the bed and kiaping the detection device on my finger. then she pasted 3 devices that looked like stethoscope on my chest (under the blue robe). soon, another anaesthetist came and talked to me.. then he gave me the first shot through the tube in my hand and told me it was a painkiller. it wasn't long before the effects came. i was feeling really dizzy and i heard the nurse telling the doctor "oh my, she's turning red". i could actually feel it coz there was some funny burning sensation on my skin, especially at this particular area i don't wanna mention :x the nurse gave me an oxygen mask (there was a peculiar smell in the oxygen.. never knew pure oxygen smells like that) then the anaesthetist gave me another shot, and told me i will feel drowsy after that. that was the last thing i remember!

12pm: i was dreaming about doctors i guess. "miss tan.. miss tan.." the nurse woke me up. i think it felt damn drama.. u know on tv they always show how patients wake up.. i saw light at first.. then the image slowly came.. it took me quite some time to remember where i was and what happened :x my head was spinning and the first thing i did when i regain consciousness was to cough. my throat was super itchy and i recalled the doctor said they'll stuff a tube into my lung through my nose to help me breathe so i guess the irritation came from the tube (which was already removed when i woke up, thankfully). then i realised there were 2 big pieces of gauze stuffed in both sides of my mouth and i knew the surgery was over! the nurse then wheeled me back to the ward. i rested but didn't manage to fall back asleep. actually my entire mouth area was numb including my tongue so i didn't feel much pain but i know my jaws were aching like mad.. as if i just ate a thousand apples or a basket of the oldest veggies u can find in the market. the gauzes in my mouth were starting to irritate me so i pressed the bell and asked for the nurse. she pulled the gauzes out and i saw two red carpets unrolling from my mouth. gross! she then asked if i wanted to have a drink (the drink was already prepared and left on my table). oh please, who on earth will have the mood to drink right after seeing red carpets unrolling from the mouth? but she forced me to and said i should get used to it -.- i decided to go to the toilet first before i drank it.

1+pm: the rule was that any GA patient must rest on the bed for at least 2 hours after the surgery and that he or she must be sent home by someone regardless of how old he or she is. i was resting on my bed but i couldn't sleep so i was peeping through the gap between the curtains that were drawn around my bed. the first incident that i witnessed was this little girl, probably 6 years old, crying and yelling right after her surgery as if she just escaped a monster's torture. i could hear her cries even though she was in the operation theatre. the cries become louder as she was wheeled out and from what i hear i guess a few nurses must come together to bring her down :x unfortunately the girl's bed was just beside me. arghs. her cries just added on to my agony (at that time the needle and tube was STILL stuck in me and i could feel it). according to my parents the girl's dad had to pacify her and she struggled so much that her blood was all over his shirt :x oh man. if he walked out like this people might think he just murdered someone. anyway the girl got tired of crying and fell asleep, giving me a peace of my mind finally. it wasn't long until the second incident happened. a russian guy who just had his surgery was dying to go home but the hospital couldn't let him since he didn't have anyone to escort him back. they finally convinced him to call his friend. he was a really bad patient though, he just got changed back into his own clothes without permission and insisted he wanted to go out for a smoke. "there's nowhere else you can go for a smoke, sir" the nurse told him. "you are under the hospital's care and it's our responsibility to look after you. you are a patient here and you should be listening to us." blah blah blah but the nurses' preachings just fell on deaf ears when the stupid man just dashed out of the ward to smoke. i think the nurse sent someone to stalk him or something just in case he escaped -.- what a stubborn man. but i wondered how he could be so strong right after a surgery. my mum looked at him and looked at me again and asked why he could jump around but i looked pathetic. well, maybe they didn't give him enough dosage of the anaesthetic hahaha.

2+pm: finally discharged after the doctor's examination! he said a piece of my gum was cut off and sent for biopsy.. hmm whatever they want to do that for haha. anyway dried blood was found in my right nostril when i went home.. probably due to the tube. argh.

i feel quite alright now! not much pain in my mouth anymore :) i didn't take any painkillers! (though the painkillers were the most expensive.. 3 times the price of my antibiotics) but i still don't really dare to open my mouth wider hahaha coz there's still a blueblack feeling. i'm paranoid over my hand though, until now i still don't dare to remove the plaster! hahaha :x my mum thinks i'm crazy coz it's just a poke not a cut or whatever but my dad thinks it's normal to feel disgusted and pain coz afterall the needle was stuck in my vein for so long hahaha. oh, and the doctor called me up this morning to check on me. what good service hahaha but i guess that's the least they should do anyway since we paid so much money!

i think i can even go for ballet tmr! :D
